The BEST VPN in 2024? | NordVPN or PrivateVPN or CyberGhost VPN?

NordVPN or PrivateVPN or CyberGhost VPN?

Today I want to compare three leading giants in the sector, to see which one offers the best VPN.

So, should you get NordVPN or CyberGhost or PrivateVPN?

Naturally, when comparing VPNs and their parent companies, everyone necessarily has their own strengths and weaknesses, so let’s see how each behaves in different situations.

I’ll start with the jurisdiction. For me, it is an important factor that a VPN operates in a country that respects privacy rights, both NordVPN and CyberGhost have privacy-friendly jurisdictions.

Panama for NordVPN and Romania for CyberGhost , these countries are not part of the infamous 14 Eyes alliance, it is a group of countries that share information.

PrivateVPN’s jurisdiction, on the other hand, is in Sweden, which is part of the 14 Eyes alliance, although PrivateVPN has a no-logging policy, it has not been the subject of any independent audit.

So you have to take my word for it that your data will remain private, which is far from ideal, if you don’t know what a no-logging policy is, it’s a promise that a VPN provider will not collect, store or share any user data, until an audit is completed, although a no-logging policy is actually just a promise.

Both NordVPN and CyberGhost have been audited by independent third-party companies.

For NordVPN, once was not enough, it actually underwent four different audits without logs, talk about the commitment to security and transparency.

That said, I have to give all the vendors a point for including a fully functional kill switch.

A kill switch is just a fancy term for a feature, which turns off my internet connection, if the VPN connection is having problems, which ensures that my real IP address has no chance of leaking.

Okay, how trustworthy are these VPN providers compared to others? This is an important factor, as it reflects the reputation and credibility of the VPN, and the parent company itself.

Nord Security has been offering a high-quality service for a long time and is constantly improving security.

Miss Group from PrivateVPN, is also a long-standing reputable company that owns many brands, although most of them are related to hosting.

The parent company of CyberGhost, however, has experienced a bit of controversy in the past.

Kape Technologies was formerly known as Crossrider and was allegedly involved in the distribution of malware, this raised concerns about whether they could be trusted with user data, but since CyberGhost has been independently audited, I no longer see this as a huge problem.

I want to talk about servers and coverage, by country is CyberGhost better than NordVPN? In the past, CyberGhost was a clear winner, there were more than 11,000 servers in 100 countries, but they have since hidden their server numbers.

While NordVPN has recently introduced a ton of new server locations, which have increased their server pool to about 6300 spread over 111 countries, it is worth mentioning that both NordVPN and CyberGhost work on RAM-only servers, which erase all data after each restart, no logs of my data on the server, no one can spy on them.

PrivateVPN, on the other hand, has a much smaller server list, with only about 200 servers in 63 countries, this can lead to slower speeds, and lower reliability, especially, during peak hours when many users are connected to the same popular servers.

In addition, PrivateVPN does not have RAM-based servers, which is not perfect for security. Still, PrivateVPN has an advantage over the other two, it owns all its hardware, which gives it more control and flexibility over its entire network, but a lot of servers don’t mean much if they’re all slow, right? So, how are these VPNs doing in terms of performance?

After carrying out several tests, I could say that NordVPN takes the lead by far, although this is not so surprising, since it implements a custom version of the current fastest WireGuard protocol.

CyberGhost fell to second place, but what surprised me the most was that PrivateVPN was not that far behind.

Remember, CyberGhost also uses the WireGuard protocol, while PrivateVPN works on an old type of protocol, so hats off to PrivateVPN, it’s not the best, but it sure takes a lot of effort.

PrivateVPN is not as good in terms of streaming as I would have liked, it unblocks some things, but even then the experience is not what I would call smooth.

If I had to choose a streaming winner, it would be NordVPN and its performance better and more stable than the others.

Torrenting overturns this and PrivateVPN becomes the leader, yes, CyberGhost and NordVPN have servers optimized for P2P and better speeds, and NordVPN even has a free SOCKS5 proxy for faster torrenting.

But PrivateVPN wins the victory by allowing both SOCKS5 proxy and port forwarding features.

Both of these options are less secure than using a VPN connection when torrenting, but they make the process faster and more reliable, and to be honest, port forwarding is a very rare feature among VPNs nowadays, okay, we talked about the technical details.

Now we can look at all the extras that come with these tools, and I’m not going to sweeten them, NordVPN wins a little.

The three main features for me are threat protection, Meshnet and dark Web monitor.
Threat protection, is an ad blocker and a combo of anti-malware tools.

It blocks malicious websites and scans files when I download them, meshnet works as a remote control for my devices.

Dark Web monitor scans all the most remote places on the web, looking for leaks of my data and notifies me if something is wrong.

CyberGhost, on the other hand, does not offer many extras, but it is a good choice for gamers.

It has specialized servers, optimized to have a low latency, playing with a VPN connection is more of a reality than you might think.

PrivateVPN offers a stealth VPN, which is a feature that disguises my VPN traffic, as your ordinary regular traffic.

Although NordVPN and CyberGhost have similar VPN traffic obfuscation capabilities.

Now I won’t go into the prices too much, you can find most of them by visiting the supplier itself.

But let me give you the gist of things.
First of all, these VPNs are quite economical options, comparing NordVPN, it has the most expensive plans, but considering all the additional features that come with it and the fact that it now allows 10 simultaneous connections, the value balances out.

The second place goes to CyberGhost, it offers affordable packages, starting from a few dollars a month and allowing seven simultaneous connections.

Still, PrivateVPN costs by far the cheapest, it also allows 10 connections, and you can take a three-year subscription for that price.

Conclusion :

So let’s answer the question I raised at the beginning, NordVPN or CyberGhost or PrivateVPN?

And the victory goes to NordVPN, it just comes with more features, and it has the best performance, it is a versatile tool for all situations.

And CyberGhost is not far behind, mainly due to a fairly impressive server pool and good speeds.

PrivateVPN lasts this time, but it’s still a good VPN, for beginners or torrent-oriented users.
