iPhone 16 & 16 Pro :
The iPhone 16s are finally official, I got some first hands on time, and here’s everything you need to know.
So, as expected, we have four new iPhones, there is an iPhone 16, an iPhone 16 Plus, an iPhone 16 Pro and an iPhone 16 Pro Max.
So, all new iPhones have the new second-generation ceramic shield, which is supposed to be about 50% stronger, than the first generation, and Apple has said that it is twice as resistant as any other smartphone glass.
Now, I’m not going to be someone who’s going to do drop tests to test them, Now the iPhone 16 and the 16 Plus have the same size screens as last year, so we have 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, they use OLED technology.
They get pretty bright, a maximum outdoor brightness of 2,000 nits, and they go down to a single nit, so if you use them in the dark, it will be really good.
However, they are still only 60 hertz, we don’t have a promotion, which I know a lot of people will be disappointed about.
Now, with the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, we actually have slightly larger screens, 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, because we have super small glasses.
However, the devices are slightly larger in terms of height and width, although they are the same in terms of depth.
We have a promotion technology, so 120 Hertz, and that’s going to mean that we can always have the screens always on, which you won’t have on the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus, in terms of maximum brightness, it’s the same, we have a maximum outdoor brightness of 2,000 nits, and up to one nit in the dark.
Now, looking at the design, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, therefore, have a redesigned camera module, we have the cameras side by side, which will allow a 1080p spatial video, as well as the possibility of taking spatial photos.
We have an aluminum construction, composed of 85% recycled aluminum, and we have refreshing colors.
So, there is a black, a white, a pink, a teal, as well as an ultramarine, the other design change for the iPhone 16 and the 16 Plus, is that we now have the action button, which we saw on the iPhone 15 and the 15 Pro Max, it is above the volume buttons.

As expected, all devices are IP68 water and dust resistant, and we have something new.
We have control of the camera, now this can be used both in portrait and landscape, it is rinsed to the surface and it uses sapphire crystal.
Now you can use it to launch the camera and take pictures, you can click and hold, start a video, but it has a tactical click feedback, as well as a multi-capacitive signal sensor.
And I must say that the haptics are very good on this, it looks like a real button, if you press it lightly, you will be able to see other commands, and then you can browse them.
So, for example, if you are in the camera, and you want to zoom in and out, you can simply swipe your finger using the camera control, and it is also compatible with other applications.
I think it’s very useful, it depends on how I get used to it, my feedback with the action button was that it was the top button, and I just didn’t find myself using it.
And I was saying that the action button, would be better if it was placed lower, but Apple just gave us a completely different button, but it’s more of a camera control, so it’s technically not a button.
Personally, I would also have liked it to also serve as a touch ID sensor, for those days when you have your face pressed into your pillow, and you want to unlock your phone, and face ID doesn’t work.
For me it would have been ideal, maybe we will have it in the next version.

Now let’s talk about the cameras, so, the iPhone 16 and the 16 Plus have new cameras.
We have a 48 megapixel fusion main camera, and due to the larger sensor sizes, it can simply use the central part, to give you 12 megapixel zoom photos, twice without loss, as we have seen previously on the Pro models.
The iPhone 16 and the 16 Plus, also come with a brand new 12 megapixel ultra-wide camera, equipped with an autofocus.
This means that you will also be able to use it again as a macro camera, as we have seen previously on the Pro models.
Now, due to its larger sensor size, you also have 2.6 times more, more light and we have improved the audio recording, with the possibility of suppressing unwanted wind noises.
Now the iPhone 16 Pro and the 16 Pro Max, we have a new camera again, 48 megapixel fusion.
Now this is a second-generation quad-pixel sensor, and it is supposed to be twice as fast.
IPhones have usually been very fast at taking pictures, with minimal shuttle lag, but you can see it in this example, here with the iPhone 16 Pro Max, when I was taking pictures of Fisher, I mean, it was very, very fast.
Now, the big improvement we have is with the ultra wide camera, it is now a camera, ultra wide of 48 megapixels.
That’s something I’m super happy about, because I would say that on iPhones, the ultra-wide cameras have been good, but when you compare them to the competition, they lagged behind.
So it’s nice to see this improvement, again, it has autofocus, so you can take macro photos at 48 megapixels, and then we have the 12 megapixel telephoto lens, which will offer you a five times greater optical zoom.
It is now also on the iPhone 16 Pro, last year we only had a 5x telephoto lens, on the Max version, not the Pro version, but they have managed to integrate it now into the Pro version, which is good.
Another novelty are the photographic styles, so now these have been improved.
Previously, I’ll be honest, I never really used them much, because I didn’t want to stick to a particular style, what you can now do is change them after the fact.
So you can just take a normal photo, then you can enter and adjust the photographic styles, there is also a live preview if you want to take them, when you are shooting.
And you can also use the camera control, to switch between different photographic styles.
Now, a big improvement that we have is with the video, we now have 4K120 frames per second, Dolby Vision HDR cinematic video, you will be able to record in slow motion, or just record in your standard video, and then, you will be able to access the Photos application, then adjust the speed, so you can go to 120 fps, 60, 30 or 24 frames per second, which is the correct frame rate, brands but it really seems very, very impressive.

With the audio, we also have some improvements, we have four studio-quality microphones, and these will give you a more faithful sound to reality, with reduced noise, that spatial audio capture.
And then, we have a new audio mixing feature, the first in the industry, this uses machine learning to separate the different voices.
So, you can have a mix in the frame, to improve the audio of the person speaking, and then we have the studio mix, as well as the cinematic mix.
I’m really looking forward to testing this, and maybe comparing it to Magic Audio Eraser on the Google Pixel 9, Pro XL.
Right now, let’s talk about performance, and all the performance that leads to Apple intelligence.
So, with the iPhone 16 and the 16 Plus, we have the new A18 chip, which is actually a hell of an improvement over the A16 bionic, which we had on the 15 and the 15 plus, it is the second generation three-nanometer chip, which has twice as fast machine learning, a 30% faster processor, a 40% faster graphics processor, and it is also more efficient, consuming 35% less energy, compared to the A16 bionic.
It also has a thermal substrate, to dissipate heat, and can offer you 30% higher sustained performance, as well as hardware-accelerated ray tracing.
With the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, we have the A18 Pro chip, this also uses a three-nanometer process, and has a 20% faster GPU, a 15% faster processor, and gives you twice as fast ray tracing, while consuming 20% less energy, with a 20% improvement in sustained performance, compared to the A17 Pro.
And again, this is all built for Apple intelligence, so let’s talk a little about software. So, we have iOS 18, and we have already seen the previous one.
We now have many customizations on iOS 18, I’m not going to go into all these details, one of the new things we have, is the emergency SOS with live video, then we have Apple Intelligence.
Now, as always with Apple, they have emphasized privacy, with Apple Intelligence, as well as the fact that he can understand the personal context, I actually talked to Tim Cook about Apple intelligence at Dub.
But going through some of the features of Apple Intelligence, you have the writing tool, so wherever there is a cursor, you will be able to summarize the text, you will be able to rewrite the text in different styles, we also have great improvements for Siri.
You can long press the power button to launch it, and again, it can tap into your personal context, which makes it quite special.
So, for example, you can go into your photos, and search for Noah playing football and he will know who Noah is, and he will find photos of Noah playing football, and he can also search for a specific moment in a video, which is very, very cool.
And there will also be a cleanup where you can delete people, from the background of your photos.
Now, many of these Apple intelligence features, will arrive at a later date and with Siri initially, it will be American English that will soon be supported, by other languages.
Again, I can’t wait to test all these new features.
Now, addressing some of the features that you may have missed, we have Wi-Fi 7, across the board on all new iPhones, it will be great if you have a compatible router.
You will be able to get very high speeds, and even if you don’t have it at the moment, it’s good that it’s future-proof.
And although all iPhones have USB type C, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have USB 2, so that’s going to give you about 480 megabits per second, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have USB 3, which will give you up to 10 gigabits per second.
Thus, you will be able to get much faster transfer speeds, and especially if you record directly in the diary, on an external hard drive, this will be very useful on Pro models.
Now for the batteries, we have upgraded batteries for all the new iPhones, as far as I know I’m not sure about the specific sizes, but the iPhone 16 has a larger battery size.
However, due to the new, more efficient chips, we will get better battery life on all the different iPhones, something I will have to test, we also have Qi2 supported on all the different iPhones.
So, you have 15 watts of wireless charging, and if you use MagSafe, you can get up to 25 watts of fast charging, if you have a 30 watt power adapter that you connect the MagSafe charger to, which is pretty cool.
Now finally, the price so to my knowledge, the prices have not changed compared to last year. So, the iPhone 16 starts at $800 or 800 pounds. The iPhone 16 Plus starts at $900 or 900 pounds.
The iPhone 16 Pro starts at about $1,000, 1,000 pounds.

Now, these are all for the basic 128 gigabyte models, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, however, starts at 256 gigabytes, and it’s going to start at 1,200 pounds or $1,200, you can pre-order them all starting on Friday, September 13, and they will all be available, starting on September 20.
