The BEST Antivirus TotalAV :
At first glance, TotalAV Security has a lot to offer: an antivirus, a VPN, an ad blocker and a password manager, all rolled into one, but are all these features of the same quality, or is TotalAV just trying to stand out as a one-stop shop? I’m going to do a TotalAV antivirus review to answer, is TotalAV good? And see how it compares to the market.
Starting with an important question, is TotalAV safe?
The results of independent institutes show that TotalAV is only improving in terms of removing malware from devices, during recent comparative antivirus tests, TotalAV managed to block 98% of threats.
In the AV-TEST institute, it gained 100% in 0 days, and a four-week-old malware detection.
Also, in my own TotalAV test, I put 100 files on my PC, to see if they are detected as malware, by a full scan, guess what?
TotalAV was very successful, detecting 81 malicious files.
All things considered, TotalAV is reputable, and it has proven that it can not only protect, but remove threats from users’ devices, otherwise, features are also an important consideration.
Let’s take a look at these, TotalAV has real-time protection, this is an essential feature, to ensure that your device is protected at all times, there is also ransomware protection.
Now, this may not seem important to the average user, but since ransomware has become a very profitable activity for cybercriminals, it is good that TotalAV informs you of any threat and quarantines them.
Then there is a WebShield browser extension, using an extensive database of threat intelligence, this feature can analyze, and categorize web content.
Essentially, it will prevent your device, from coming into contact with harmful websites, premium plans offer you additional optimization benefits, such as system tuning, it analyzes and removes all duplicate or unwanted files, it is said that it improves the performance of your device, but I can only say that I noticed a significant difference.
They even block ads, and trackers while you browse, and higher-level subscriptions, add enormous value and security, which do not go unnoticed.
These come in the form of a VPN, and a password manager, I discussed at the beginning whether it was more of an advertisement, to encourage you to subscribe, but not really in terms of features.
After some tests, I can say that the password manager, can compete with standalone products, it is located right there in the TotalAV application, and can be integrated into your browser with an extension.
This allows me to perform most of the daily password management tasks such as storing, auto-filling and generating unique passwords, everything is locked behind a master password, and encrypted for assured security.
So what about the VPN? I must say that it is bold for TotalAV to enter the market, given its competitiveness and innovation.
With that in mind, yes, it does what any VPN should do, hides your IP address and anonymizes your Internet traffic, not only that, but it uses strong encryption, and has a kill switch to ensure that your data is not leaked.
Total VPN has a no-logging policy, which means that they have not stored your activity, but this still needs to be audited, on the other hand, in terms of server selection, there are quite a few for basic activities, with servers in 35 countries.
Some of them are also fast, although this is not the largest list of servers, considering the great price of the package with my discount, you still get your money’s worth.
Real discussions, is there room for improvements?
Yes. Total VPN lacks security audits, They have not yet implemented RAM-only servers, which cannot keep user data by design, and are much more secure.
Then, advanced features and certain activities such as streaming are not possible, however, it is fully equipped to make your browsing, and your online experience more private.
Another small caveat that other TotalAV critics will not mention is the missing firewall.
That said, your built-in PC firewall, should be more than enough with a good antivirus.
TotalAV is really considered a complete cybersecurity suite after all, but are these tools easy to use?
Looking at ease of use, an important consideration, when choosing an antivirus, TotalAV is often praised for its user-friendliness.
With simple applications, it is clear to see why mobile applications mirror the desktop versions, in terms of full functionality, except that the iOS version cannot run system scans.
Now, I don’t think this is a big deal, due to their built-in iOS protection, and their add-on features.
The desktop has a clear layout, the features are easy to find thanks to the icons on the left, this is where all the tools that we have covered are located, and you just have to tap on their icon, and it will take you to their main page.
Despite many features, I don’t think beginners will be overwhelmed.
Everything is clear and not that complicated, impressive, TotalAV also consumes only about 8% of the RAM, of my system in the background.
So it’s not a resource-intensive antivirus, which will slow down my PC to get to the heart of the matter, however, what is the price of TotalAV?
Generously, they have a free plan forever, although I would say that it is really only for basic protection and maybe to try the software Why?
It lacks security elements, really important such as real-time protection, or against ransomware, and can only be used on one device.
If you want more security, you should look into their entry-level plan, which is by no means expensive, it is a good plan for basic users, who are not looking for a complete security suite and only need a few protected devices.
Conclusion :
Is there room for improvement?
Sure. It would be nice if they implemented a firewall and added a few more changes to their VPN.
But as an antivirus provider, it is easy to detect and remove malware effectively, and it can work in real time to protect your device, making it one of the best antivirus options currently.
