ExpressVPN vs Proton VPN :

ExpressVPN-vs-Proton-VPN
ExpressVPN vs Proton VPN-2

If you are choosing a VPN and your final choice is between express VPN and proton VPN, you are on the right track, these two options are popular and reliable, but they are each good for different reasons.

So today, I’m going to try to find out everything there is to know about these two, and hopefully help you decide which VPN is right for you.

The only thing you should know right away, is that there are key differences in terms of plans and prices.

For example proton VPN, is the only one with a free version, it’s super limited with only three location options, pretty janky speeds, and good streaming it doesn’t work, but you can have a good preview of their app, and see if you like it.

But I recommend that you use the 30-day money back guarantee instead, you can use it as a proper free trial, without annoying limitations, and this applies to both Express and proton VPN.

Now, when it comes to choosing a suitable plan, both VPN options have pretty solid prices if you do the math, the greatest value comes from long-term plans, which is the case with most VPN providers.

Nowadays with ExpressVPN, the best value comes from their one-year plan, while proton has a 2-year contract, which is a good plan, little more profitable if you want to get the best price.

When it comes to a proton VPN versus ExpressVPN comparison, or any other VPN comparison for that matter, I always have three main categories in mind value, security and performance.

In terms of security I’m talking mainly about privacy measures, and security because these are the best VPNs, you can already expect high security standards, modern data encryption ciphers, privacy-friendly jurisdictions, and of course solid and independently audited.

So no log policy is safe, but why are we talking about it, because if you look deeper, VPNs also take slightly different approaches to security, for example protonvpn has its source code available to the public, people with coding knowledge can report any flaws that work as a free additional security measure during this time.

Expressvpn focuses more, on privacy because data retention is a major concern, when using a VPN, ExpressVPN has implemented RAM-based servers, which completely erase all data during a server restart.

On top of that, they have introduced a bug bounty, for those who would find security vulnerabilities in their system, so in this case, choosing between expressvpn and protonvpn depends on your preferences, whether you like protonvpn’s transparent approach, or Express VPN’s privacy and security improvements.

If you think the differences end there, this is just the beginning.

Now, I’m not talking about minor differences in the number of devices, which they allow to be used simultaneously or the number of servers they have that said, I still don’t understand why ExpressVPN hides their problems.

What really struck me is how different the VPN applications, are the two VPN providers, cover all the major operating systems which are the same.

But the general appearance of their applications could not be more different after my opinion on expressvpn, I would say that this VPN takes a very minimalist approach, the application window is small with this button, for a fast VPN connection occupying most of the space, you can then open a side pop-up window, to choose the location, to which you want to connect.

If you want to configure ExpressVPN, and you can easily find everything you need, you need it in the settings tab.

I recommend activating the network lock, which stops Internet traffic in case your VPN disconnects, and also activating their threat manager to avoid trackers, and malicious sites when browsing in terms of additional features.

There are not many of them, and the few that he has are quite specific.

For example, if you are looking to configure a VPN on your router, ExpressVPN has a unique feature of device groups, I can assign different locations to different device groups, which, if you know the VPN configurations of the router, is practically impossible with other VPNs that they have also recently introduced their own password manager, this is new.

So there aren’t a lot of additional features yet, but honestly, since it doesn’t cost anything extra, I would say that it adds a ton of value to this VPN and that’s about it, but as I said, ExpressVPN takes a minimalist approach, in terms of applications and features.

But after my review of protonvpn, I can say that it is quite the opposite, the application window is larger, and the interface is much more cluttered, the server locations are listed on the side, or you can use their interactive map.

I’m not a big fan of this one, because it’s a bit dark and confusing, they could take some notes on the nordvpn server map, because it’s much easier to navigate anyway.

You can also access many features, protonvpn directly from the main dashboard, the light switch button hides the kill switch settings, and the shield icon is for their net shield function, this one is also a little more powerful than in the ExpressVPN counterpart.

Because it can also effectively block ads, there are also the secure main servers belonging to protonvpn, and the profiles tab if you want to create VPN connection presets.

So yes, there is a lot going on, and there are even more features, if you dig deeper, such as visiting VPN servers for maximum anonymity.

So if you want a lot of privacy features, and you know how to use them, protonvpn is an obvious choice at the same time, this way the application feels like it is suitable for more advanced users.

If you are a beginner or an occasional VPN user, ExpressVPN might actually better suit your needs.

But here’s something that novice and advanced users will definitely need and it’s a good performance whether I’m streaming, or just staying under the VPN shield while browsing, I don’t want to see a delay.

So I set up some protonvpn speed tests, compared to expressvpn to check which VPN is the fastest, overall to be honest, the results are very similar, the difference between the speeds is very minor, and you can’t feel it at all when browsing.

But if we were true to the numbers, expressvpn was a little faster this time, since I already mentioned streaming, let’s talk a little more about it, I have no doubt that this is the main use of a VPN, for some or most of you from my proton VPN vs expressvpn review.

I can tell you that both VPN options, can access all integration platforms there is always room for errors of course, so if you see something like that, changing VPN server solves that right away.

But for more obscure streaming platforms, I recommend using expressvpn simply, because it has servers in more countries and more countries equals, to more content in this case, I would lean towards protonvpn because they have specialized PTP servers, who said that the torrent speeds that I have seen, were about the same with the two best VPN candidates.

Now that we have discussed everything, from security to value, and performance, there is no need to increase questions like is protonvpn good or is expressvpn safe, these are both reliable options, but which is better for beginners, I would recommend expressvpn, it is simpler and easier to navigate.

And although there are not many features, it covers all the necessary bases, and adds a free password manager, in addition during this time.

Conclusion :

Protonvpn, is an excellent choice for advanced users, you will like the transparency of their application, open source and many features with which you can play.
