Walmart Onn 4K Pro Google TV Streaming Box :

I have tested the new Walmart onn 4K Pro over the years, I have amassed a small cemetery of streaming devices, which help me measure how the latest streaming hardware compares to what already exists on the market, so here are three things I want to say right away about the new onn 4K Pro.

The best feature of this device, is the hands-free voice commands, that you can turn on and off an old TV simply, using your voice which includes this old Roku TV.

You can replace your old slow TV interface, with a new one powered by Google TV, there are hands-free functions of searching for my remote control, by simply using a voice command, you can quickly find your remote control, or you can press a button on the front of the broadcasting device, streaming for this feature, and if you are an Android phone user, you can also use a voice command, to quickly find your phone.

So when I was finishing my review for the cord cutting Report website, the thing that was running through my head, was this $50 price tag, we didn’t see a $50 streaming device, with smart speaker capabilities, that has pretty decent performance and built-in memory.

So if you only had $50 to spend, for a streaming device streaming device, and you look at other models of Roku Amazon and chomecast, you get more memory, and more RAM and hands-free voice commands, and there’s really no difference in terms of performance and speed.

So after spending a few weeks playing with different home network configurations, launching applications and trying different devices, I can tell you that the 4K Pro is very fast, it maintains a very strong Wi-Fi connection, and has an Ethernet port on the back if you want to wire your connection.

Do the Amazon Fire TV Cube, and the Apple TV have faster processors, absolutely you I really need them to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime, probably not the onn 4K Pro supports Wi-Fi 6, if you have a WiFi 6 compatible router, or a mesh network configuration that can offer you faster speeds, and lower latency there is a USB port on the back, if you want to connect a hard drive or other media to your streaming device.

Another thing that I really like about the onn 4K Pro, is that it works on Google TV, which brings together the three main sources, to watch my TV which is via a TV and YouTube streaming, this device supports 4K, and other HDR formats, including Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos is supported, and there is a built-in Chromecast.

So if you want to stream videos, and photos from your phone or other streaming applications, from your phone, you can do it quickly with a few clicks, the remote control is about 5 inches long, it has a rounded back, it is practically identical to the previous one on the remote control, with the addition of a few extra buttons that I really like.

There is a customizable button at the top of the remote control, you can use this button for a favorite streaming service, you can just press the button and launch it right away, you can also use it as the device’s input button, so if you have a game console or DVD player connected to your TV so that you can, just press this button and quickly switch to your other hardware.

When you press the customize button the first time, that you have the choice of how you want to configure it, and the other thing that is nice is that you are not locked in how you use this button, you can always change it later by long pressing the button, to get the corresponding menu.

There is also a dedicated button for the Google profile, so if you have a household where people want to keep their own watchlists and favorites, the profile button, is an easy way to switch between these so that everyone has their favorite shows, and their streaming apps lined up, as desired Walmart recently confirmed that there are two different remote controls, delivered with the latest remote is actually backlit and has a free TV button, in the middle most of my TV shows are happening, in a dark room usually at night.

So as far as I’m concerned, the value of having a backlit remote cannot be underestimated, the only other backlit remote I have is with one of my Nvidia Shields, I bought this device as soon as I could.

Unfortunately, I ended up with the non-backlit remote control remote control, I want to talk about my configuration, because I didn’t expect that one would work so well, with this old Roku TV, which I have when you go through the configuration process, you will be able to choose the brand, and the model of TV you own, and you will go through a battery of tests, which will synchronize the onn 4K Pro.

With the type of TV, and the audio configuration that you have, this is a TCL TV it is a 2017 model, it still works very well, except that the Roku interface is a little slow, I also have a Samsung soundbar connected to the TV.

The audio is actually executed, via an optical cable but I also have an HDMI cable connected from the soundbar, on the TV so that I can control the volume.

I now have control of both the audio, and the TV via the remote control, and via my hands-free voice commands.

Now, just in comparison, I bought a Roku Pro voice remote control a while ago for this TV, and it’s been a really good experience it’s given me hands-free voice commands, and it was just a nice upgrade for this TV that I use every time, that I get out of the office.

But the main thing is that the Google TV interface is faster, so I’m probably going to leave it connected to the Roku TV, now for the foreseeable future or at least until it is, it’s time for me to test something else, is there something I didn’t like, with the on 4K Pro not really.

I think you get a lot of value for $50, and it strikes the right balance between features and price, by the way the onn 4K Pro, runs on Android 12 with a March security update, so it’s a very recent version of the software, it’s not something from a few years ago, it’s a more updated version of Android, than the one I have on my Sony OLED TV, which is a very expensive 4K TV.

Will the onn 4K Pro get Android 14, which no one really knows for sure, but if I had to guess, I would say yes and the reason is that Walmart recently reported in an important way, that it wants to be in the smart TV and streaming space.

A few months ago, Walmart paid 2.3 billion for the TV manufacturer Vio with this kind of investment, it tells consumers that Walmart thinks there is room for them, to compete when it comes to TVs, and affordable streaming devices.

Conclusion :

One of the advantages of Walmart, to get into streaming devices and televisions, is that many of these devices have integrated advertising so far, I have not seen many advertisements on the onn 4K Pro, and I hope that this will remain.
