The best Huawei Pura 70 Ultra :
Huawei has reinvented its flagship P-series products, and the result is the Huawei pura 70 Ultra.
The pura 70 Ultra is Huawei’s latest entry in the race of phones, with Android camera what is special, and is the phone worth choosing despite the lack of support from Google.
The popular pseries phones from Huawei, are no longer included in the Pura series, of which the Pura 70 Ultra is the flagship model, the camera system has been redesigned since last year’s p60 Pro.
The main camera has a large 1-inch type sensor, and a variable aperture lens that retracts when not in use Huawei, says it has been tested to last more than 300,000 retraction cycles, besides the change of cameras compared to the p60 pro, there is an improved screen, a different chipset, a larger battery, and faster charging.
Also the design is quite distinct, the camera configuration is huge, with an interesting triangular layout in several steps, the phone has an eco-leather back, which curves at the edges in the frame, it is soft and offers a nice grip.
The frame is rounded and made of polished aluminum, overall the p70 ultra feels quite solid and pretty premium, it is also ip68 rated, with excellent protection against dust and water, as you would expect from a flagship phone on the front is a 6.8-inch ltpo OLED display with a resolution of 1260p, and a refresh rate of 120 HZ, it is protected by something called Crystal armor kunon glass.
The crystal armor glass, is advertised as being 300% more resistant than ordinary konon glass, and also scratch-resistant the screen glass is not flat, it curves slightly at the edges, the screen has very thin glasses and with a pixel density of 460 PPI.
It is quite sharp there is support for 10-bit color, and hdr10 video, ltp technology means that the refresh rate should be more adaptive, to save energy and able to go to 1 Herz in slow motion, but like last year, it seems that the built-in refresh rate counter of the phone, is not able to capture this.
It shows much less variability, there is a slight improvement in brightness this year, we measured about 630 nits maximum, with the manual slider and this could increase to more than 1200 nits, in automatic mode when exposed to bright light for audio, there is a pair of stereo speakers, they are not as loud as the pros of the p60 with an average score for volume.
But the audio quality is very good, with beautiful voices and treble, and enough the base of the phone has a fingerprint scanner, under the screen for biometrics, it is fast and reliable.
The pura 70 Ultra, available worldwide comes with 512 GB of storage on board, but unlike previous Huawei phones, this is not expandable via a memory card, the interface of this phone is the latest emui 14.2 from Huawei, which is built on Android 12 emui looks quite familiar.
You get a separate notification center, and control center similar to what you get Apple or XI cards are back too, pressing and holding certain apps will open a set of options, without the need to open the app first, and you can organize the apps into large folders, which allow you to open shortcuts with one touch, you don’t have Google services or apps here, instead emi1 14 relies on Huawei services and apps, and their proprietary app Store app gallery.
The application gallery, sometimes displays advertisements when you open it the selection of applications, which it offers is constantly increasing, but there are still many notable shows compared to the Google Play Store, there are other ways to get the applications you want with the integrated pedal search.
You can find applications outside the gallery like developer websites, and other application repositories.
Now there are options like Gbox a virtual machine, which acts as a workaround by allowing you to install and run some Google applications, including the Google Play Store and from there you can download and install other applications to try, I say try because although Gbox allows many of these applications to run, not everything will work correctly.
And finally since the phone has an INFRARED Blaster, you can use it to control the devices remotely.
Now we have the chipset the Pura 70 Ultra, uses a Karan 9010 which is a silicon, of medium class in terms of raw power, the Kieran 9010 is about to perform at the same level, as the mediatech dimensity 8200, in the benchmarks.
The pura 70 Ultra provides typical figures for a higher mid-range phone, the performance is solid and sufficient for a smooth daily experience, and even for some games it is still far behind what the other current flagships can offer and you also do not benefit from support for 5G connectivity, due to Huawei’s restrictions.
The thermal management, is not excellent during our prolonged stress tests, there was a significant limitation, and it was not stable either with dips, and sudden spikes the purus 7D Ultra, has a much larger battery capacity, than last year.
Having gone from about 4800 Mah hours to 5200 with it, the pura 70 Ultra was able to obtain an active use score of 12 hours and 29 minutes, during our tests with good figures in terms of calls and video streaming, and the charge has been improved it is 100 WS.
Now as before the adapter has both a USBC port, and a usba port, but you can only use one at a time with this adapter, we were able to charge the phone from 0 to 58% in 15 minutes, and 90% of the battery was charged within half an hour.
A full charge, it took 48 minutes there is also support for wireless charging, 80 W and reverse 20 W wireless charging.
Now on the cameras, there are a total of three on the back, a 50 megap main camera, a 50-card 3.5-fold telephoto lens, and a 40-card Ultra-wide card that has an automatic focus, the main camera is the most interesting with this 1-inch IMX 989 type sensor, sensor offset stabilization and a retractable lens with a variable aperture, the aperture is adjustable in a range of nine fixed steps between f1.6 and f4.0.
And it is useful if you want to manipulate the depth of field, it is not the first time that we have seen a variable aperture of the Huawei shot, at the widest f1.6 aperture will give you a shallow depth of field, with a blurred background while at f4.0 you get a deeper depth of field, with more focus on the scene as far as quality is concerned.
The 12 megap photos from the main camera are exceptional, there are a ton of details, and the rendering is well balanced and natural without extreme sharpness, the colors are precise and the dynamic range is not very wide, which makes the photos more realistic.
Huawei also announces that the main camera, can detect fast moving objects, and automatically increase the shutter speed when we photographed this crow in motion, no photo is blurred the main camera provides two times zoom, wireless which lives up to its name.
The quality is almost the same as that of the standard photos, you can see an artifact, if you look closely, but it is rare in low light, the photos from the main camera are excellent again, they have a lot of detail no visible noise, superb color saturation and good exposure.
The dynamic range is also excellent, the noise reduction sometimes seems a little strong, and probably responsible for the polished appearance, which you get in some photos.
Now on the telephoto lens its photos enlarged 3.5 times, are excellent rich in detail without noise, accurate white balance, and bright colors as on the main camera, the natural rendering deserves praise once again, the telephoto lens also offers telephoto macro capabilities, because it can shoot at a distance as close as 5 cm macro close-ups look great with a background, naturally defocused the telephoto lens offers a hybrid zoom up to 10 times and at this zoom level.
The photos are not only usable, they are quite beautiful of course, there are fewer details, but there is still enough noise, is well cleaned the colors are accurate, and the sharpness is not exaggerated in low light the 3.5 times zoom photos, are solid there is a decent amount of detail, the noise is kept low the color saturation is excellent, and the dynamic range is superb.
Now, the ultra wide camera the photos have a very wide field of view, and the quality is excellent there are a lot of details balance, the sharpness of the impactful colors and a good dynamic range, since this camera has an automatic focus, you can also use it to take macro close-ups, with they are good but we prefer those of the telephoto camera.
At night the ultra-wide photos have a good quality of details low noise, wide dynamic range and excellent color saturation the exposure is bright, but not exaggerated however the heavy noise reduction, seems to give a faded blurred appearance the selfies come from a 13 megapixel front camera, equipped with an automatic focus and there are three zoom levels available, regardless of the zoom option you choose.
The Selfies are superb, they are sharp with a ton of details bright colors with low noise, and great dynamic range the rendering, is quite natural too.
Finally, we enter the video quality, the Huawei pura 70 Ultra captures videos up to 4K resolution at 60 FPS, on all its cameras unlike still photos, the video quality in daylight is good but far from the best, that we have seen it is more than an average showing that we expected more details, and that all the videos seem overexposed the dynamic range, is very wide.
The colors are mostly accurate, and there is no visible noise the night videos from the main camera, are composed of a lot of fine details saturated colors, and a good dynamic range, and the electronic video stabilization is always activated, and it works very well to smooth your sequences.
Conclusion :
So here is the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra, it brings a unique design, a great and well protected OLED screen, and fast charging, the retractable main camera is an interesting touch, and when it comes to photography, it is one of the best camera phones on the market.
But there are some drawbacks here, the video recording quality is not as good as that of still images, and the chipset is nowhere near as powerful as competing flagships, there is no 5G support, and of course you don’t have official Google support.
